PPDA Welcomes New Board
The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) is pleased to announce the commencement of an induction program for its recently appointed board members from December 27th to 29th, 2023, aimed at acquainting the Board with the Authority's operations.
In his remarks, Dr. Edington Chilapondwa, Director General of PPDA, extended a cordial welcome to the incoming board members, emphasizing the Secretariat’s commitment to providing unwavering support to facilitate a smooth transition for the Board. "The diverse expertise represented within the new board is poised to significantly benefit our service delivery to the people of Malawi," noted Dr. Chilapondwa.
Highlighting the urgency of pending matters, the Director General apprised the board of a submission backlog resulting from the three-month gap following the previous board's term expiration and he underscored the need for an immediate attention from the new board to address these outstanding issues promptly.
In his address, Mr. Jacob Nyirongo, the newly appointed Board Chairperson, conveyed his congratulations to fellow members on their appointments. Recognizing the importance of ex officio members' guidance, Nyirongo stressed the weight of the Authority's responsibilities in meeting national expectations. "While the board's composition may be lean, the tasks ahead demand our collective insight to fulfill our mandate effectively," emphasized Nyirongo. He further encouraged flexibility among members acknowledging the necessity of going beyond conventional limits to meet set expectations.
The Board Chairperson also acknowledged the PPDA Management's commitment for convening during the festive season to ensure continued operations.
The current board has the following representation:
- Mr. Jacob Nyirongo Board Chairperson, Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce, and Industry (MCCCI)
- Mr. Martin Chizalema Malawi Institute of Engineers (MIE)
- Ms. Pilirani Chuma Malawi Law Society (MLS)
- Ms. Clara Gausi Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) and
- Ex-Officios from the Office of the President, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Justice.
