During the National Construction Day held on 3rd July 2026 one of the Authority's Directors of the Board Johnny Somba (QS), received a Lifetime Achiever's Award.


Director Somba sits in the Finance and Audit Committee of the Authority.

QS J.J. Nsomba, Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor, construction management expert, and infrastructure development leader, has rendered over four decades of distinguished service to Malawi's built environment.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying from Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University) in the United Kingdom, and a Master of Science in Construction Management from Loughborough University of Technology, United Kingdom.

His extensive public service includes appointments as Director of Buildings in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Controller of Housing Services, Deputy Director of the Government Contracting Unit in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Chief Executive Officer of the National Construction Industry Council (NCIC), Unit Coordinator of the Education Infrastructure Management Unit in the Ministry of Education, Quantity Surveying Specialist and Acting Principal Secretary in the Government Contracting Unit, as well as Contract Manager and Deputy Project Manager for the Kamuzu Barrage Rehabilitation Project.

He has also provided expert leadership on nationally significant assignments, including the One-Stop Border Posts Programme, technical audits of major road contracts, education infrastructure development, housing projects, and the resolution of complex contractual disputes.

Beyond project delivery, QS Nsomba has made outstanding contributions to strengthening Malawi's construction industry through his leadership of NCIC, now the National Construction Industry Authority (NCIA), during its formative years. He has served as President of the Surveyors Institute of Malawi, Board Chairperson of the Architects and Quantity Surveyors Board, and Council Member of the National Council for Higher Education.

His exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and enduring contribution to infrastructure development have left an indelible legacy on Malawi's construction industry, making him eminently deserving of this Lifetime Achievement Award.
