PPDA MANAGEMENT POSES WITH THE WORLD BANK DELEGATION

The World Bank has commended the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) for the significant strides made in implementing the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS).

World Bank Lead Procurement Specialist Howard Bariira Centenary made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday October 9, 2026, saying the progress made so far is encouraging.

He thus urged the Authority to remain vigilant and scale up communication and training efforts.

Centenary said sustained support is critical to ensure all entities are ready and comfortable using MANePS by December 2026.

The meeting was aimed at reviewing progress on priority public procurement reforms, including the e-GP rollout, Sustainable Public Procurement Policy and opportunities to streamline government approval processes.

According to Centenary the growing number of registered suppliers, published plans and procurement opportunities signals an increasingly active digital procurement ecosystem and a significant step towards more accessible, transparent and efficient public procurement.

As of 5 October 2026, MANePS had registered 7,417 suppliers, including 31 international suppliers and 685 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The platform has also seen strong participation from Procuring and Disposing Entities, with 216 institutions publishing their 2026/27 Annual Procurement Plans, representing 86 percent of the 250 plans targeted.

Procurement opportunities are also becoming increasingly visible online.

MANePS has recorded 560 procurement notices, up from 380 at the time of the mandatory-use circular, while 562 tenders have been published to date.

PPDA’s Acting Director General Timothy Kalembo described the World Bank Feedback as timely adding the authority is leaving no stone unturned ahead of the December 2026 deadline.

MANePS is funded by the World Bank through the Performance for Results (PFORR) component.
