KALEMBO-DELIVERING HIS REMARKS
The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) has taken another significant step towards promoting sustainable public procurement practices in Malawi by convening a stakeholder validation workshop for the draft Sustainable Public Procurement and Disposal (SPPD) Policy.
The workshop brings together key stakeholders to review and provide final input into the draft policy before its submission to relevant government authorities.
Speaking during the workshop, PPDA Acting Director General, Timothy Kalembo, emphasized that sustainability is critical to the attainment of Malawi’s development aspirations.
He noted that the proposed policy is expected to deliver tangible value to the economy and national development agenda by ensuring that public procurement goes beyond mere compliance and actively contributes to sustainable outcomes.
Kalembo further observed that once adopted, the policy will apply across all public institutions and expressed gratitude to DFID and the consultants for their support throughout the policy development process.
In his remarks Project Coordinator for DFID Mr. Nyasulu, underscored the importance of digitalization in achieving Malawi’s environmental, social and economic development goals.
He added that environmental sustainability and value for money remain central to the project’s objectives.
The validation workshop follows an earlier stakeholder consultative meeting held in Lilongwe, where stakeholders reviewed and provided comments on the initial draft of the policy.
The consultative process forms part of PPDA’s efforts to ensure that the policy reflects the needs, priorities and realities of Malawi while incorporating international best practices in sustainable procurement and disposal of public assets.
