PRESIDENT MUTHARIKA UNDERSCORES DIGITAL PROCUREMENT
February 13, 2026

PRESIDENT MUTHARIKA

His Excellency the President Arthur Peter Mutharika has underscored Digital Transformation as a key pillar for economic recovery and improved public service delivery.

Speaking in his State of the Nation Adress on February 13, 2026 in Lilongwe, President Mutharika directed all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to embrace digital technology and called on Malawians to fully utilize online platforms for essential services, including public procurement.

“Malawians must now fully utilize online platforms for application of passports, national IDs, and driving licenses, as well as for public procurement and other essential services," President Mutharika said.

The President’s directive places Digital Public Procurement at the center of Government’s reform agenda, highlighting the critical role of the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS) in modernizing the way public resources are managed.

By moving procurement processes online, Government is strengthening efficiency, reducing delays, and ensuring that procurement activities are conducted in a more structured, traceable, and standardized manner.

Digitalisation through MANePS is also a powerful tool for promoting transparency and accountability. The system enhances visibility of procurement processes, limits human discretion, and creates an audit trail that helps deter malpractice.

In line with the President’s broader commitment to good governance and fiscal responsibility, electronic procurement supports efforts to eliminate corruption and ensure that public funds deliver maximum value for Malawians.

The President’s strong emphasis on digital governance signals high-level political will for the continued rollout and adoption of MANePS across all public institutions.

As Malawi accelerates its journey toward a digital economy, the successful implementation of electronic procurement will remain a cornerstone in building a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free public procurement system that supports national development and restores public confidence.
